The workshop provides participants with techniques, tools and strategies to successfully support people who are distressed, upset or generally requiring emotional support.
Content and discussion with the program include:
• Definition and key attributes of an Accidental Counsellor.
• Empathy, body language and active listening skills.
• Effective use of questions.
• Solution-focused approach.
• Empowering others instead of “fixing’ others.
• Negative impact of giving advice outside the scope of your role, expertise or experience.
• Tips for managing challenging character types.
• Referring on.
• Closing/ending an Accidental Counselling conversation.
• Skills practice.
