22 May 2023
Palliative Care Victoria is delighted to announce the winner of the Noala Flynn AM Award for Excellence in Palliative Care Nursing. As part of National Palliative Care Week 2023, this esteemed award recognises the outstanding achievements of specialist palliative care nurses and pays tribute to Noala Flynn’s passion for this vital area of healthcare.
The recipient of this year’s Award is Jeni Whitfield from St John of God (SJOG) Frankston Hospital. Jeni displayed exceptional dedication and perseverance as the lead nurse in the establishment of a new palliative care service in the Granada Ward of SJOG Frankston.
As the ward had previously focused on rehabilitation, this transition was a significant shift for the hospital and staff. Jeni played a pivotal role in educating and supporting the staff in providing high quality palliative care for their community. Her unwavering commitment to both the patients and their loved ones, and staff truly exemplifies the passion and leadership that this award aims to recognise.
The Noala Flynn AM Award for Excellence in Palliative Care Nursing honours the memory of Noala Flynn AM, a pioneering palliative care nurse and leader in Victoria. Noala commenced her palliative nursing career at Mercy Hospice in 1985, and her contributions to the field continue to inspire and motivate professionals in the palliative care community.
“We congratulate Jeni Whitfield on receiving the Noala Flynn AM Award for Excellence in Palliative Care Nursing. Her exceptional work establishing and leading the palliative care service at SJOG Frankston is a testament to her dedication, compassion, and expertise.
