We are looking for compassionate, dynamic and enthusiastic nurses to join our existing team. Experience in palliative care is a significant advantage, however we are willing to train and educate the right person who has a strong desire to work in community palliative care.

Melbourne City Mission Palliative Care (MCMPC) is based in Thornbury and is a leading community palliative care service providing palliative care to clients of all ages with life limiting illnesses living in their own homes in the local government areas of Hume, Darebin, Yarra and Moreland. We provide a holistic approach to palliative care and aim to enhance the quality of life of clients and support carers. MCMPC provides a 7-day service. The hours for this position is currently 0830-1700hrs. Occasional on call work will be required once trained.

What is Offered

About the role Palliative Care Community Registered Nurse – Grade 3 and Grade 2 Permanent part time. Several positions available. Working as a member of an interdisciplinary team and in collaboration with external health professionals, the Palliative Care registered nurse will provide specialist palliative care to MCMPC clients in accordance with the, values, policies and procedures of Melbourne City Mission Palliative Care, and within the philosophy and organisational values of Melbourne City Mission.

Duties include but are not limited to: Provide comprehensive assessment and regular review of palliative care clients - using a holistic and anticipatory approach Plan and coordinate services (with other agencies or disciplines) relating to end of life care with all clients and carers Deliver a high standard of care regardless of clients’ or colleagues’ differing values, beliefs, culture and social context Ability to work independently with guidance and support from the senior nursing team.

Selection Criteria

Skills and experience
- Minimum 3 years postgraduate work experience in palliative care or oncology.
- Strongly desirable but not essential experience in community nursing.
- Demonstrated high level of skill in clinical decision-making and assessment skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team setting.
- Sensitivity to people living with a terminal condition and those who are dying or bereaved.
