In 2022 PCV collaborated with the Australian GLBTIQA+ Multicultural Council (AGMC) on a project aimed at improving awareness among LGBTIQA+ individuals from multicultural multifaith (MCMF) backgrounds of their rights and options and create strategies of equity and inclusion among palliative care service providers.
AGMC is the national peak body for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex, queer individuals and community groups of multicultural and multifaith backgrounds.
The project consisted of surveying MCMF LGBTIQA+ awareness, concerns and needs of palliative care services, developing targeted resources and identifying areas for future policy, advocacy and community development. The results of the project have been published in a document entitled ‘My Choice of Care: Palliative Care from Multicultural and Multifaith LGBTIQA+ Perspectives and Experiences’. The project has also produced a series of short videos available on the PCV website which provide an introduction to palliative care for members of the Australian LGBTQIA+ multicultural and multifaith community.

The report launch was followed up with a special event held during Cultural Diversity Week in March 2024 called Our Choices – Conversations with the LGBTQIA+ community about palliative care. Featuring a panel of speakers from the LGBTQIA+ community, the event served as a platform to continue a community-led conversation about palliative care and end-of-life experiences.
We hope our continued collaboration with AGMC will bring more opportunities to amplify the voices of LGBTQIA+ communities across Victoria.
