During 22-23 PCV continued to build on its successful partnership with UNITED Spanish Latin American Welfare Centre. This year the work focussed on strategies aimed at engaging the Spanish-speaking community in conversations about end-of-life. The project involved delivering professional development opportunities to UNITED’s Client Services Team, Aged Care Workers and volunteers. This included a number of training sessions with Associate Professor Barbara Hayes and a field trip to Rosehaven Hospice in Mansfield for two volunteers.
The project also delivered a community awareness campaign. This included UNITED staff conducting community information sessions to the Chilean Club in Deer Park and the Pentecostes Group in Broadmeadows. They also developed a flyer about Advance Care Planning which was disseminated widely at the Spanish Language Fiesta in North Melbourne. Social media campaigns, radio interviews with SBS Spanish Radio and 3ZZZ Radio were held during National Advance Care Planning Week and a resulting podcast is available on SBS website. We hope to continue to build on this great work with UNITED in the new year.
